VMware is recognized by many as the virtualization leader in the technology industry. They have now announced that they will be releasing a majority of VMware Tools as open source software as part of the project Open Virtual Machine Tools. VMware Tools is a set of guest operating system virtualization components that enhance performance and improve management of VMware virtual machines. The source code is available today to enable Linux vendors to integrate open-sourced VMware Tools into upcoming versions of their operating systems.

VMware’s move to open source will prove to be important in making more efficient virtual machines and getting more people to use virtualization products.

Today I had the task of installing a development server running the Django Python framework for one of our web developers. Yesterday I went to install Wordpress 2.1.2 (the latest version as of this writing) and I discovered that Wordpress now requires MySQL 4. There isn’t a lot of information on the internet about upgrading MySQL in a Plesk installation. These are the steps I took to upgrade my Fedora Core 2 Plesk installation.

A few weeks ago Becka left her Razr V3c in her jacket pocket and put it through the washing machine. The phone was completely soaked and had soap all over it. She immediately took the battery out, and we tried using a food dehydrator to dry it out. I took a few pictures with my camera phone of what we did.

Ever since Tyler got his new Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro, we’re been dying to do a three-way video conference using iChat. For some reason our first couple of attempts were unsuccessful. However, last night we were able to pull it off and here are the results.
